New recipient of The Charlie Ericksen Internship Supplement: Laura Romero

The supplement provides awardees with $465 for metro transportation to be put on a SmarTrip Card and $35 for NAHJ student membership dues (worth $500 total).
Laura Romero is currently a sophomore majoring in CLEG (Communications, Law, Economics and Government) at American University. She is the current president of the NAHJ student chapter on campus and is also interning at CNN en Español. Previously, Laura was an intern at Telemundo 44 and the student government reporter for The Eagle, the school’s newspaper. Under her leadership, the NAHJ AU launched its first event called, “Latinos and the Midterm Election,” a panel discussion featuring journalists from CNN, Univisión, Telemundo, NBC Latino, and NPR. She has also had Priscilla Alvarez and Brandon Benavides visit the chapter to discuss the future of Hispanic journalists. Laura is currently preparing the chapter’s next project: to visit a local middle school and teach children the importance of knowing what is going on in the news.
¡FELICIDADES LAURA!
