Increasing the influence of Latinos in the newsroom

¡Mil gracias! Noche de Periodistas a great success

Chapter members and friends,

Thank you for helping make our 6th annual Noche de Periodistas a great success! The fundraiser was held on Saturday, June 24th from 4-7pm in the home of Ray Suarez. The raised funds will go towards our Charlie Ericksen Internship supplement. Every year, we provide four journalism students interning in DC with supplements worth $500 and match them with a mentor.

To everyone who bought a ticket, brought food, and drinks: Thank you! Our chapter fundraiser was a success because of you. We want to thank our special guest Lulu Garcia-Navarro, host of NPR’s Weekend Edition Sunday, for joining us and sharing her story.

A big thanks to our incredible hosts Ray Suarez and wife Carole for their hospitality and support these last 6 years. The NAHJ DC board presented them with an award on behalf of the chapter. The Suarez family will be moving to Amherst, Massachusetts where Ray will be a university professor teaching two courses in the fall. We will miss having them in the District, but are certain they will continue to be a positive force in their new city.

The chapter presented one of our 2017 Charlie Ericksen summer supplement winners, Javier Giribet-Vargas, who is interning at NPR. We appreciate the D.C. Chapter President of NABJ Donna Walker for coming alongside their chapter members.
